Holograms are normally restricted by holoemitters. The holoemitters are what the
computer uses to create the hologram, so they can only be active where there are
holoemitters, usually on the holodecks and in sickbay. This can be overcome in
several ways. One of these ways is to place holoemitter relays all over the ship
or a large area, so the hologram can be active in any area of this zone. Another way,
which allows the hologram to be active anywhere, is a portable holoemitter, similer
to what the doctor in Star Trek: Voyager uses. With this holoemitter, the hologram
is free to move about, because they are wearing the holoemitter that they are been
generated with. The holoemitter that is in use is from the 29th century, and is far
more advanced than any technology Starfleet has developed so far.
Holodecks are where both pre-programmed and 'learning' holograms can be active. On
most star ships, there are several holodecks, of which do not use standard power
relays. They consume a large amount of power, and because of the holoemitter relay,
can not work with the main power of the starship. This is additionaly helpful, as in
the case of a partial power failure, or when the ship needs to conserve power for a
large amount of time, the holodecks can still be used normally.
Information on the Borg
The Borg are an extremly powerful race of cybernetic drones. The drones are networked
into a central collective, which has one mind and works as one. They do not reproduce
as most other species do, they assimilate lifeforms and add their technolgy and
advancements to their own, in an effort to become perfect.
They travel in borg cubes and spheres. Both of these are capable of traveling at
transwarp speeds, and have advanced damage control. This damage control allows the
ship to automaticly repair itself after been damaged and adapt to weapons so they do
not harm the ship. All of the drones on all the ships are apart of the same
collective, no matter where they are, and how many are on a ship.
The drones themself are in ways more powerful than the ship. The drones have powerful
shielding that adapts to weapons after one or two shots, protecting the drone from
them. The drone can assimilate any organic lifeform to become a borg drone, and to add
its destincifness to the borg collective. This assimilation process can be reversed
over time, although it is extremly difficult and rearly done.
The drones are part organic material, and part machine. This means that while they
have many weaknesses that humans have, their mechanical side allows them to overcome
these weaknesses and become more powerful than ever. Most drones can not speak in
english, or any language, although in many cases the collective itself can speak in
english. This is not true for the 29th century borg, who can talk like normal humans,
and look and act more closely to humans than 24th century borg.
While is has only been seen a few times, and this contradicts some of the facts listed
above, there is a borg queen. It is not known how many queens there are, or if they
control the entire collective, or are just one of the borg that has been choosen to
communicate with other species that the borg encounter.
